Heritage Meets Climate Resilience

Project Description
Jejak Warisan Kampung Losong set out on 3 June 2023 to document the traditional knowledge on climate adaptation of Kampung Losong, Terengganu, particularly reflected through the local architecture and food delicacies. The team interviewed field experts such as experienced woodworkers specialising in traditional Malay wooden houses, as well as fishermen from Kampung Losong, to capture their knowledge, stories, and lived experiences. These insights have been compiled into a booklet to preserve valuable heritage practices and ensure that future generations can learn from and appreciate the traditions that have been passed down over time.

Beneficiaries
This project benefited young people in Kampung Losong, students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), and the wider local community by strengthening their understanding of the relationship between cultural heritage and environmental change.

Outcomes & Impact
The team produced a comprehensive booklet that serves as a repository of knowledge, showcasing community stories, traditional practices, and reflections on climate adaptation. This booklet aims to inspire learning and deepen appreciation for local heritage among future generations. In addition, the team developed a learning module highlighting the link between heritage and the environment, and organised a walking tour with seven young participants to bring the cultural narratives of Kampung Losong to life through an immersive experience.
