At the Alliance of River Three (ART!), we take real action to restore the Klang River’s vital ecosystem. As part of our rehabilitation efforts, we are establishing Pollinator Gardens at our SDG Parks. By planting native flowers, we provide essential habitats for pollinators that stabilise the food web, naturally filter the river, and accelerate long-term nature repair.
Community Action in Focus: Composting for the Climate
Local leadership is the heartbeat of our success. We have several dedicated resident, consistently supports the composting initiative at MVR3 SDGP by contributing food waste from their home. These commitments provide a hands-on learning experience for our volunteers, turning waste into a resource for our pollinator gardens.
This practice directly advances SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by diverting organic waste from landfills, and SDG 13: Climate Action by reducing methane emissions. We invite more community members to follow these examples by being mindful of their food waste and joining our local circular economy.
Continuous Stewardship: Maintaining Our Green Spaces
Beyond planting, our teams carry out essential maintenance at both the Taman Melawati and Mid Valley sites. These efforts ensure our parks remain clean, functional, and safe for all. This ongoing work supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 15: Life on Land by protecting urban biodiversity and providing healthy green spaces for the public.
Why we need the Klang River?
As of 2026, the Klang River is being used as a source for drinking water through the Rasau Water Supply Scheme. The river now provides a massive 700 million liters per day (MLD) of drinking water to nearly 500,000 households.
Flowing through the high-density urban corridors of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, the Klang River faces immense pressure from urbanisation. Industrial discharge, household waste, sewage, and polluted surface runoff continue to threaten river health and water quality.
Public awareness is our first line of defence. Many are unaware of how daily habits impact our waterways. A clean Klang River does more than protect biodiversity it prevents flooding, improves public health, and increases property values. Ultimately, a healthy river strengthens community well-being and provides vibrant recreational spaces for everyone.
Join us!
Here at the Alliance of River Three, it is important for us to encourage both local communities and the public to embrace their river by nurturing interest, care, and a strong sense of responsibility toward it. After all, if the local community does not take responsibility for the river, no one else will. By fostering a deeper connection between people and the river, we can promote long-term stewardship that helps protect and restore the Klang River for future generations.
